Embarking on a journey, whether it's an ultramarathon relay or a dynamic career in the electric vehicle industry, is a magical experience. Joining Tesla in 2012 and recently participating in the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey (RTO) with my colleagues was a nostalgic sprint down memory lane, filled with both challenges, exhilaration and some pretty good laughs.
Running the RTO paralleled my journey at Tesla in various ways. Each race leg mirrored different stages at Tesla, from intense uphill battles reflecting demanding periods, to the intellectual and emotional challenges of innovation. Despite these challenges, like our race, we persevered, pushing forward step by step.
At Tesla, moments of breakthrough, like creating revolutionary electric cars, the supercharging network, world-class digital experiences and more, were akin to a "runner's high", bringing a harmonious rhythm to our work. These instances mirrored the RTO's satisfying momentum and progress.
But it's not all about extremes. The "off the trail" moments matter too. In the RTO, it was about shared laughter, the stunning Tahoe views, and the silent bond in the cool dawn. But who are we kidding - the desert coldness at 3am is something else too! At Tesla, it was the thrill of late-night releases, the camaraderie over shared meals, and the collective effort in office relocations, remote work, frontend meetups, and expansions, among other things. These experiences, paralleling the teamwork in our relay, highlighted the joy of achieving milestones together.
With that, it's fair to say this year's RTO was pretty darn special, symbolizing a transition between new and veteran Tesla members, including the end and beginning of some chapters. It was a time to reflect and cherish our collective journey and impact we've made and will continue to make. The faces at Tesla may change and challenges may grow, but our spirit of adventure, camaraderie, and resilience remains a big part of our core and of our story, just like the RTO.
As my career evolves, the memories of this race will continually remind me and keep me connected of the amazing people, and our relentless spirit and determination, propelling us forward in both the race and at Tesla... and beyond.
